NJSHAD Query System Tips

General NJSHAD Query System

  • For step-by-step query system examples see the Query Tutorials List
  • Use age-adjusted rates when you want to compare areas, for example New Jersey and U.S. data.
  • Use the small dark red arrows in the table headers to sort data columns.
  • Be aware of data issues and data notes on the results page. They give information about the dataset that anyone using the data should know.
  • To import data tables into Excel, select the output table starting with its title and copy (Ctrl-C) it, then paste (Ctrl-V) into an Excel worksheet.
  • When looking for specifics on how something is measured or information about a topic or measure, check the Indicator List.
  • Blanks in 2-way crosstabulations indicate a value of zero.

Mortality

  • Lists of ICD codes are available on the Help page.
  • Causes of death are listed alphabetically using NCHS terminology. For example, Cancer is listed as Malignant Neoplasms, Heart Disease as Diseases of Heart, Homicide as Assault, and so forth.

User defined ICD codes

  • Use a hyphen to indicate a range of codes, 'C00-C97'.
  • Use a space or a comma between codes, 'I10, I12' or 'I10 I12'.
  • When entering more than one code such as 'I10, I12' the results will display all the records that have I10 or I12.
  • Codes can be entered on different lines and then displayed by the codes.
